MCB First Timer Program

Every journey begins somewhere. For many blind Missourians, their first MCB Annual Convention is a turning point — the moment they discover a statewide community of people who truly understand their experience, and a full ecosystem of programs and resources available to them.

If you've never attended an MCB convention, the First Timer Program is designed specifically for you. MCB will cover the costs of your first convention experience — removing the financial barrier so that nothing stands between you and your community.

What Is the First Timer Program?

The MCB First Timer Program provides a scholarship covering the core costs of attending your first MCB Annual State Convention. Up to four First Timer scholarships are awarded per convention, managed by the MCB Membership Committee.

Lodging

Three nights at the convention hotel, fully covered.

Transportation

Travel costs to and from the convention — reimbursed by MCB. You arrange travel; MCB covers the cost.

Meals

Three meals on Friday · Two meals + Saturday banquet on Saturday · One meal on Sunday.

Transportation note: You are responsible for arranging your own travel to and from the convention. MCB reimburses your transportation cost after the convention.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the First Timer Program, you must:

  1. Legal Missouri Resident
You must currently live in the state of Missouri.
  2. Legally Blind
You must meet the legal definition of blindness.
  3. At Least 18 Years Old
The First Timer Program is for adults aged 18 and older.
  4. Never Attended an MCB Convention
This scholarship is exclusively for first-time convention attendees.
Only 4 scholarships are awarded per convention. Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee — apply early to secure your spot.

What Is the MCB Annual Convention?

The MCB Annual Convention is the most important gathering in Missouri's blind community — a multi-day event held each fall that brings together hundreds of blind and visually impaired Missourians, advocates, partners, and allies.

  • General membership meetings and elections
  • Workshops on technology, employment, health, and daily living skills
  • Guest speakers and advocacy presentations
  • MCB Awards Banquet, including the Ellis M. Forshee Award
  • Networking with MCB affiliates from across Missouri
  • Access to all MCB programs, exhibitors, and resources in one place

For new and prospective members, the convention is the fastest way to understand the full scope of what MCB offers — and to connect with the people behind it.

New to MCB? Here's What to Expect

The MCB Convention is welcoming by design. Whether you navigate with a white cane, use a guide dog, or are just beginning to explore your options after a vision loss diagnosis, you'll find people at the convention who have walked a similar path — and who are eager to share what they've learned. First-timers are welcomed, supported, and celebrated.
