A woman with light brown hair and glasses sits smiling at a round table. On the table in front of her, there are various items related to accessibility for people with vision impairment: two large black devices with buttons (likely digital talking book players), a braille electronic device, a white and blue Wolfner Library tote bag, a tactile bill identifier labeled “iBill,” a plastic case with a Wolfner Library label, a sign with the Wolfner Library logo, an open book, and a copy of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Other people are seated and talking in the background, in what appears to be a community room or library meeting space. The setup showcases resources and equipment for reading accessibility, specifically for those using the Wolfner Talking Book and Braille Library.

The Missouri Council of the Blind promotes the general well-being of legally blind Missourians through advocacy, resources, and programs that encourage independence and equal opportunity.

Life is unique when it’s possible to see it a trillion different ways under a multitude of circumstances. Whether blindness or sight loss is your experience or the experience of someone in your life, MCB is pleased to provide programs and services that help individuals across Missouri come together and start seeing the world in a different light.

Congratulations to Kristi Freeman for winning the Slogan Contest.

Ellis M. Forshee Award Presentation

A group of people is gathered in a restaurant with wooden beams on the ceiling and brick walls. They are standing in a line, smiling at the camera. The person in the center is holding a plaque. The group includes a mix of men and women, some of whom are holding white canes, indicating they may be visually impaired. In the foreground, there is a long dining table set with black tablecloths, glasses of water, a glass of beer, plates with bread rolls, and lemon wedges. The table also has cutlery and napkins neatly arranged. The atmosphere appears to be warm and friendl.

Cheers to advocates who use their power and position to improve the social landscape for those experiencing low to no sight. MCB was proud to present this award to Missouri State Representative Yolanda R. Young. You can download the Thank You letter from Representative Young.
