SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM GUIDELINES
Adopted October 10, 2002
I. THE PURPOSE
The purpose of the Summer Camp Program is to offer a rich experience of fun,
recreation, relaxation and socialization to Missouri Council of the Blind legally blind and sighted members as well as other legally blind
citizens of Missouri who are not members of MCB.
II. RESERVATIONS
A. Obtaining an Application
An application and guidelines may be obtained by phoning the MCB office at (314) 832-7172
or toll free (800) 342-5632 or by e-mailing: moblind@moblind.org; or writing to the:

B. Where Should Applications and Checks Be Sent?
1. All applications, checks and communications should be sent to the chairperson of the
Summer Camp Committee.
2. Each person planning to attend camp must submit an application with all blanks filled in.
C. Summer Camp Costs
1. (See cost schedule on application.)
2. All money must be sent to the Summer Camp Committee chairperson by an individual
or by families. Do not send an affiliate check to cover all attendees from an affiliate.
3. Checks and money orders must be made payable to The Missouri Council of the Blind.
III. MCB SUMMER CAMP REGULATIONS
A. Who Can Attend?
1. The Camp Committee will make the decision as to who attends.
Preference will be given
to legally blind persons and their immediate families (spouses and children).
2. No pets allowed; guidedogs are welcome.
3. Applications with the earliest postmarks will be considered first.
B. Is There Swimming?
Swimming will be permitted during the hours established by agreement with the camp owner
and MCB Camp Committee with lifeguard on duty. The MCB will not be responsible for anyone
swimming when there is no lifeguard on duty.
C. Housekeeping and Respect for Others
1. Campers should make every effort to be neat and clean around their cabins.
2. All those attending camp are expected to be considerate of the staff and other campers,
and are to demonstrate appropriate behavior.
3. Parents are to be responsible for the behavior of their children at all times.
4. Any camper failing to obey these regulations or to respond to corrective action by the
Camp Committee agrees to leave the camp upon request of the Camp Committee. No refund
of any money prepaid to the Camp Committee will be made.
D. Can I Do Fundraising at Summer Camp?
1. No merchandise is to be sold while at summer camp except in connection with
fundraisers for MCB or its affiliates.
2. The Summer Camp chairperson must be contacted in advance and all fundraisers
approved by the Committee. The Committee will decide which are appropriate.
3. One hundred percent of the profits must go to MCB or one of the affiliates.
E. Complaints, Requests, Emergencies and Cancellations
1. Campers who have complaints as well as requests will make them to the Camp
Committee chairperson.
2. Should an emergency situation arise, refunds may be granted at the discretion of the
Camp Committee.
3. People who cancel their application two years in a row without a valid reason will be put
on the waiting list.
F. What Kind of Assistance Can I Expect?
There will be no personal care attendants available at camp for people with severe disabilities.
IV. TRANSPORTATION TO MCB SUMMER CAMP
A. Van Rentals by Affiliates of MCB
1. If an affiliate has several legally blind people needing transportation to camp, you may
contact the MCB office to arrange for a van.
2. Payment for vans should be made by each affiliate and shall be reimbursed by the MCB.
If an affiliate should find that it is unable to cover the cost, that affiliate is to contact the MCB
office and arrangements should be made for MCB to make a direct payment.
3. Vans and drivers which are funded by the MCB shall be made available to the Camp
Committee to provide transportation for excursions to points of interest near the summer camp site.
4. Volunteer drivers of MCB-rented vans shall be allowed free attendance to camp.
B. Legally Blind Persons Traveling to Camp by Private Car
1. Legally blind persons who are unable to use affiliate vans or buses which are paid for by
the MCB Summer Camp Program and must travel by private car shall be entitled to a
reimbursement of $10.00 (ten dollars). The payment will be made by check and made payable
to the driver of the vehicle in which they were transported.
2. Requests for this payment shall be submitted in writing to the Summer Camp Committee
chairperson. The request must be signed by the legally blind person. The written request must
include the name and mailing address of the driver.
3. The written request must be submitted to the Camp Committee chairperson while
they are at camp.
C. What If I Have Neither Private Nor Affiliate Transportation?
Legally blind persons unable to find affiliate or private transportation to camp may contact the
Summer Camp Committee chairperson to determine if transportation may be arranged.
