Subject: [Modisabilaw] Hearings Next Week on HealthNet Costs, Budget


Both the Senate Appropriations Committee and the House Appropriations Committee on Health, Mental Health, and Social Services will hear reports from the Lewin Group next Wednesday, Feb. 3rd.  The healthcare consulting group will present its findings and recommendations to contain HealthNet (Medicaid) costs.  

 

Some of the long-term care areas reviewed for potential savings include: the intake & assessment process; capping allowable personal care/homemaker services; more aggressively implementing Money Follows the Person; adjusting the level of care threshold for eligibility; reducing rates for personal care & homemaker services; re-evaluating fiscal management services for consumer-directed personal care as well as many other possible recommendations.  

The Senate hearing will be at 8:00 a.m. in SCR 2.  The House hearing will be at 2:00 p.m. in HR 5.

 

The House committee will also be hearing Departmental budget overviews beginning with the Dept. of Health and Senior Services on Monday at noon in HR 5.  They will continue on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., also in HR 5.  Thursday, Feb. 4th the hearing will be at 8:00 a.m. in HR 5.

 

Also, the Senate Appropriations Committee will meet Monday for on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education budget.  The hearing is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in SCR 2.
