Dear Wolfner patrons,

 

Effective 11:01 a.m. central time, Wolfner Library will be the first network library in the country to take local responsibilities for the administration of downloading NLS books from the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) service. BARD users can expect to see the Wolfner Library branding on the site.

 

Administrative Responsibilities

 

Wolfner staff will take over administrative responsibilities that include:

 

  a.. Approving BARD applications from eligible Missouri readers within two business days, modifying accounts as necessary, and transferring patron information between network libraries. 
  b.. Approving patron requests to authorize third-party digital players. 
  c.. Maintaining internal readership records. 
  d.. Resetting passwords. 
 

Patron and Technical Support

 

Additionally, Wolfner Library staff will:

 

  a.. Provide support for downloading a digital book and saving it to a cartridge from a personal computer 
  b.. Respond to e-mail, telephone, and in-person requests from patrons in a timely manner. 
  a.. Refer patrons to NLSDownload at loc.gov for technical questions about BARD. 
 

We encourage all Wolfner patrons to take advantage of downloading books directly from home by joining Wolfner Library's Show-Me Downloads program.

 

You will need:

·         A high-speed Internet connection

·         An e-mail address

·         Knowledge of navigating the Web, filling out online forms, downloading large items and unzipping files

 

As an added incentive to download books from home, Wolfner Library is offering Missourians a blank cartridge and a cable to download digital books for the new digital players. Since all new NLS digital players will play downloaded books, why wait for the postal service to deliver your books? Download books 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from BARD!
