Subject: [Modisabilaw] HB1304-Down Syndrome & SB60 -Comprehensive Day Rehab

There are several bills requiring healthcare coverage that have been introduced in addition to the autism coverage bills. Two of these are:

HB 1304 - Health insurance coverage of Down Syndrome

Rep. Hodges --

This bill would require health insurers to continue to cover dependent members with Downs Syndrome after they reach 18 years of age. Typically dependents of covered members in an insurance plan may lose coverage once they reach age 18. Rep. Hodges also sponsored this bill last session, but it did not get a committee hearing. The bill has not yet been assigned to a committee.

SB 606 - MO HealthNet coverage of Comprehensive Day Rehabilitation

Senator Stouffer --

The bill would require Missouri HealthNet (Medicaid) to cover comprehensive day rehabilitation services for persons who have a recent traumatic head injury. The services would be designed to restore an individual to their optimal level of functioning after a head injury.

Senator Stouffer has sponsored a similar bill each of the last two years. The bills were voted do pass in committee both years, but advanced no farther. This bill has been assigned to the Senate Health, Mental Health, Seniors and Families Committee.
