PRESS RELEASE

On March 23, 2010, hundreds of people with disabilities and their advocates will come to the Missouri State Capitol rotunda for the 9th Annual "Disability Rights Legislative Day". (See attached flyer.)

The event features two rallies -- one at 11:15 a.m. and the other at 2:30 p.m. Key legislators and self-advocates will speak at the rallies, which will be moderated by Max Lewis (573-449-2847). Prior to and in between the rallies, the crowd will disperse for individual visits with their legislators. We expect people will start arriving at 10:30.

Opportunities for interviews, video and audio coverage will be numerous. The rally is sponsored by a coalition of disability-related organizations and individual advocates, and is co-chaired by Cathy Brown (800-500-7878) and Becky Dicky.

The coalition holds that all people, with and without disabilities, should have the lifelong opportunity to:

1.    Be treated with dignity and respect;

2.    Have all the rights and responsibilities of full citizenship;

3.    Be included in all communities in our state to live, work and play there;

4.    Exercise choice in expressing their wants and needs;

5. Have meaningful participation with our elected officials in policy development that impacts their lives.

For more information and for press packets at the event, contact our media liaison, Mark Satterwhite (573-228-0318), msatterwhite at bcfr.org.
