[Missouri-l] Whirlpool does not help disabled

Hi, the last washer I bought has a knob that doesn't have any markings. The ring under it is not connected to the knob. I couldn't tell where the settings were. I, too, have Braille labels on the washer but with the knob turning loosely, they did not do me any good. Yes, Whirlpool has great appliances but I'm sure not happy with them. I was told that they discontinued the "Braille" marked knobs because they weren't used enough. This is probably because most people did not know about this service. When this washer I have now wears out, I won't buy another Whirlpool unless they have changed the knobs. Phyllis

We have Whirlpool appliances. The controls on the washer and dryer are so easy to operate that I never felt the need for a Braille overlay. I just stuck a couple of Braille labels where I thought I needed them
and I have operated them with no trouble. It is a shame that this service was discontinued but could it be that it just wasn't beeing used and the company felt it was no longer needed? Whirlpool has always gotten high marks from AFB for making appliances that are accessible without a lot of accommodations. John ----- Original Message -----

The Whirlpool Corporation has disbanded their Special Needs for the Disabled Department. They used to provide marked dials for their washers. I called today to get a new one as mine is about to come apart. I was told they no longer provide special knobs for Whirlpool appliances. It's a shame as their appliances are great. I have had Whirlpool washers and dryers for over forty years but no more. I have registered a protest but I'm only one person and probably nothing will come from it. Just remember this if you are shopping for a Maytag, Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid appliance. Phyllis
