Before I get into the activities of the week, I want to take a few works to
thank some exceptional people for some assistance they provided to me.
First, thank you to Eleanor for all her hard work in the office this past
week. With Betsy in the hospital, Eleanor really stepped up to the plate
and was a great help to me as I prepared for the Legislative Conference. As
you know, this will be my first conference so I have much to learn. Thank
you also to Chip Hailey for answering my never-ending supply of questions!
Also, a big thank you to both Susan Sanderson and Linda Hailey for their
help at the meeting Friday evening in Lebanon.
Highlights of the last week's activities:
1. On Saturday I had the pleasure of sitting in on a Building Committee
meeting. I was quite impressed with the committee and their dedication to
keeping MCB's building in tip-top condition. They are a great group of
volunteers and their Chair, Charles Johnson, did a great job and keeping
everyone focused on the business at hand.
2. We received from the printer MCB's new tri-fold brochures. They
look great and we have already started sending them out. Because we did not
have an original of the new logo, the printer did some reworking of the
artwork and donated that cost for that to MCB as an in-kind donation.
3. We received from MCB's Springfield Thrift Store an envelope
containing $2.23 from one of their customers who wanted to donate his change
to help MCB. What a nice gesture!
3. I visited the office of the Service Club of the Blind and delivered
to them a supply of our new brochures and they generously provided us with
some additional large-print calendars. It was good to see
4. We sent 300 of the new tri-fold brochures to Nick in Jefferson City
for use with the new affiliate.
5. Lowell attended an Association of Fund Raising Professionals planned
giving seminar at St. Louis Public Library.
6. Lowell met with Foundation Center of St. Louis to discuss grant
propspects and how to gauge probability.
7. Lowell met with Brown Shoe on in kind donation to MCB.
8. Lowell continued gathering information on MCB history for
Lighthouse of the Blind proposal.
9. Registered one new applicant for Schnucks eScrip card.
10. Lowell attended Association of Fund Raising Professionals networking
after hours event.
11. Lowell followed up with several attendees at AFP networking event to
guage costs and manpower requirements for a potential MCB fundraising event.
12. On Thursday I traveled with Denny to Springfield to attend an RSB
Public Forum on Thursday evening and a Rehabilitation Council meeting on
Friday. In spite of the weather on Thursday, there was a good turnout at
the public forum. Topics discussed included supported employment. While in
Springfield, I had the pleasure of meeting Linda Coccovizzo in person.
13. On Friday evening I attended an organizational meeting for a new
affiliate in Lebanon. The weather couldn't have been much worse but we had
a full house. I was amazed and happy to see so many people turn out. I was
also amazed to see so many of our current volunteers risk life and limb to
travel in snow and freezing rain to Lebanon to meet with these potential new
affiliate members. What a dedicated group of volunteers MCB has!
Betsy is out of the hospital and back in the office this morning. She will
be working half-days until she is fully recovered.
This will be a busy week getting ready for the Legislative Conference next
week. It also appears that we may have a snow day tomorrow if we get the
amount of snow being predicted this evening.
Have a great week, everyone!
