Subject: [Modisabilaw] Hearings the Week of February 8th
Appropriation committee hearings to look at departmental budgets will be in full swing next week, along with several other hearings of interest to Missourians with disabilities.
House Appropriations for Health, Mental Health & Social Services will meet:
Monday, February 8th at 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, the 9th at 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday, the 10th at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, the 11th at 8:00 a.m.
All hearings will be on Departmental budget presentations and all will be in Hearing Room 5.
House Appropriations Committee for Education will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 9th at 2:00 p.m. in HR 1. The committee is scheduled to work on mark-up sheets of the DESE budget and higher ed budget.
Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to meet:
Monday, February 8 at 12:30 p.m. on the topic of tax credits administered by all Departments.
SB 728 - Crowell
Tax Credits
Senate Governmental Accountability & Fiscal Oversight Committee will hold a hearing on Sen. Crowell's bill to require that all state tax credits to go through the appropriations process, with a few exceptions.
SB 742 - Shoemyer
MO HealthNet Oversight Committee
This bill would add positions to the committee including a representative of the durable medical equipment industry, a mental health professional, and a physical therapist. The bill would also require three patient advocates on the committee instead of the current two. One would represent enrollees with disabilities, one would represent the elderly and one would represent children. The bill will be heard in the Senate Health, Mental Health, Seniors and Families Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 9th at 8:15 a.m. in SCR 1.
SB 812 - Schmitt
Multiple Sclerosis Special License Plates.
The plates would bear the slogan "JOIN THE MOVEMENT" and $25 from every plate would benefit the national MS Society. The bill will be heard in the Senate Transportation Committee on Wednesday, Feb 10th at 8:00 a.m. in SCR 1
House Elections Committee will hear two bills on Tuesday the 9th at 8:00 a.m. in HR 5.
HB 1966 - Diehl
Advance Voting Period
Would establish a one-week advance voting period before an election. An advanced voting location would be established in each Senatorial district or in each county if the district included more than one county.
HJR 64 - Cox -
Photo ID for Voting
Would require a photo ID in order to vote. Persons with physical or mental disabilities without a photo ID would have to sign an affidavit when they vote. The vote would be provisional and would not be counted until the local election authorities verified the individual's signature and eligibility to vote.
