August's winner of MCB's Member of the Month Award is Eldon Cox, charter
member of the Progressive Council of the Blind. Congratulations Eldon and
thank you for your time and dedication to the Missouri Council of the Blind.

The Member of the Month Committee

Nominated by:

Gregg Hollins

Attention Member of the Month Committee:

It is my distinct honor and pleasure to present before you the name of Eldon
Cox to be considered for the member of the month award. Although many
people throughout MCB may not have had the pleasure of meeting Eldon
personally, you can direct your thanks and kudos to MCB's outstanding
convention coordinator, Mr. Eldon Cox, for assuring ease with making hotel
reservations, site location, and accessibility, not just a consideration,
but a personal mandate and goal that he has attained, and exceeded with
flying colors for the benefit of all MCB members.

Often, people succeed at performing a job or task so well that the actual
work, time and professionalism they put forth is taken for granite,
unappreciated, or simply not noticed. If you understand the type of person
I have described, than I'm sure you would agree and be honored to support my
nomination of Eldon Cox for member of the month.

Eldon is totally blind and is MCB's Convention Coordinator. He travels the
state to inspect potential hotel sites for MCB's board meetings and
conventions. He is responsible for negotiating room rates, coordinating
with hotel personnel in regard to sensitivity training, and makes sure the
hotel is totally accessible with tactile land markings, proper Braille
signage on rooms, soft drink machines, and in most cases, Braille menus for
the restaurants located at the sight. Those are just a few of the things
necessary to assure that our events are able to get off the ground without a
hitch.

I certainly could spend much more of the committee's time pointing out all
the complications that come up during a convention or board meeting. I
assure you for any problems that may occur, as long as Eldon is the fireman
on duty, those fires are extinguished immediately.

Although Eldon is relatively a quiet and soft spoken individual, when he is
not coordinating conventions and board meetings for MCB, he is anything but
idle. Eldon has been a member of MCB for over 12 years and a charter member
of Progressive Council of the Blind. He has held the office of: president,
vice president, fund raising chair, public relations, just to name a few.
He is employed at Alpha Point Association for the Blind, working with
contracts with the federal government such as: packaging and preparation of
specimen bottles, Pharmaceutical supplies and assembly and packaging of all
types of writing utensils. He has been in charge of managing Alpha Pointe's
on site store known as The Connecting Point. This is a retail store that
specializes in specific merchandise for the blind and low vision.

Eldon is the proud father of 2 lovely daughters and a proud grandfather to
boot. In my opinion, whenever Eldon is representing this organization in
any facet, he is professional, independent, and organized. Every member of
this organization can smile and be proud Eldon Cox is representing MCB.

I hope I have shed some light on the man behind the curtain, and for anyone
that has not yet had the pleasure of sitting down and getting to know Eldon,
I would encourage you to just grab a hold of him at this year's state
convention, (if you can run him down), and take a minute or two to just
simply chat with him, and you'll also find him to be one of the most
trustworthy and genuine down to earth people you would ever like to meet.

I would like to thank the committee for your time and consideration on
behalf of Eldon Cox for member of the month. I certainly understand and
expect the committee to have many qualified applicants worthy of this honor
in their own right, but certainly I hope the committee can understand why I
feel Eldon should be this month's selection.

Respectfully Submitted:

Gregg Hollins
