[Missouri-l] MCB Connect

This month on the MCB Connect we are delighted to have Roselie Backer
Thompson from Missouri Assistive Technology as our guest.  Most of you will
recognize Roselie as being the coordinator for the Tap-I program.  She will
be talking to us about what Tap-I has to offer and in general, what services
the Missouri Assistive Technology program offers.

 

Here is a little about Roselie:

I have always been a part of the disability community. Both of my parents
had disabilities resulting in both of them having passed before I graduated
from college. 

 

I received my bachelor's and master's degrees in special education with my
career beginning as a special education teacher in 1970. I then worked in
educational settings as an educator or program administrator until the mid
1980s. I then worked in a variety of positions based on my husbands
employment requiring several moves. During the time between working in an
educational setting and coming to Missouri Assistive Technology in 1991, I
worked at the PACER Center which was a parent advocacy center in Minnesota,
a college instructor in North Dakota and a area agency coordinator in Iowa.

 

After Diane Golden became the first Missouri Assistive Technology director,
I was the first staff person hired for Missouri Assistive Technology. I
began as the training coordinator with the development of the Power Up
conference being one of my first projects. Since that time, I was selected
to be the coordinator of the Telecommunication Access Program for Internet
or TAP-I. A role I have had since the beginning of the TAP-I program with
the first application being processed on May, 15, 2001. Since that time
TAP-I has processed thousands of applications and projects the continuation
of the program for a very long time to come.
