When you listen to Books And Beyond, I promise it will be   unlike any we 
have done before.
Our guest will be Tom Stiles, internal coordinator of the former West 
Virginia State Penitentiary   in Moundsville.
Built immediately at     the end of the civil War, this prison,whose inmates 
were often convicted of murder,  remained open until a new one was built in 
1995.
What happened to older prisoners as they aged? How were they protected from 
other inmates? What was daily life like? What is the tie between Charles 
Manson, his mother, and this prison? Why was the warden required to live on 
the prison grounds while working there? How have prisons changed?When was 
capital punishment abolished in West Virginia? Should it be brought back?
Fortunately, most of us never have the experience of seeing a prison or of 
visiting a friend or relative there. This Books And Beyond will give us 
insight in to  life we hear about only on the news or in movies.
