Home Access Modification Tax Credit - Language is now on several bills to remove the statewide cap on this credit to help taxpayers with expenses to make their homes more accessible. In the House it was amended onto SB 71 along with other amendments and passed yesterday by an 86-66 vote. The bill also provides a tax credit for donations made to certain direct care service providers for individuals with developmental disabilities. The bill is now on the Senate Calendar of Senate Bills with House Amendments.

The home mod credit is also on HB 958, a large tax-related bill that passed the House and has been referred to the Senate Ways and Means Committee. No hearing has yet been scheduled.

HB 1038 - Hearing Aid Coverage by HealthNet (Medicaid) - The committee to which this bill has been assigned is scheduled to meet next week, but they do not yet have this bill scheduled for a hearing. This is the bill to restore Medicaid hearing aid coverage for adults. Members of the Special Standing Committee on Health Insurance are: Kevin Wilson, Chair; Burlison, Vice Chair; Mike Cunningham; Mike Dethrow; Curt Dougherty; Steve Hobbs; Tishaura Jones, Michelle Kratky, Roman Lee LeBlanc; David Sater, Robert Schaaf; Mary Still and Jay Wasson.

SB202 - Motorcycle Helmets - passed the House on Wednesday and now goes to the Governor for his signature. The bill allows motorcycle riders, age 21 or older, to ride without a helmet, except on interstate highways. The Governor has not said whether he will veto the bill. If the Governor vetoes the bill, it becomes law only with the approval of two-thirds of both the House and Senate.
