The MCB board met last night on a conference call and here are some of the
highlights.

The board accepted with regret the resignation of Franklin Johnson as our
second vice president. I have appointed Mike Keller as his replacement and
the board approved him unanimously.

The board also unanimously approved Bev Armstrong as our RSB Advisory
Council representative. She will now have to be approved by the Governor in
order to serve on that board.

I also appointed Mike Keller as our thrift store chair and he was approved
by the board.

There were three members at large approved. Bill Johnson of Webster Groves,
Shirlene Pickle of Chesterfield and Loretta Godfrey of Poplar Bluff. I
welcome all three of these members. With those additions we are fast
approaching 800 members.

The deadline for the Louis Braille essay contest is today, July 31.
Although there were very few entries, we are proceeding with the contest and
will be announcing the winner at our annual convention.

Mike Keller gave us a thrift store report outlining some of what it is going
to take to open our own thrift store. As most of you know, Mike and I have
been talking to the management of the St. Vincent DePaul thrift stores with
the intent of some sort of joint venture. Unfortunatly, due to a conflict
of interest, this will not happen. Mike and I will be meeting with them on
August 13 at the MCB office to try and glean more information and resources
from them on operating a thrift store.

I opened the floor to talk about our financial situation and although there
was a lot of discussion, we did not come up with any definite solutions. I
did try to impress on the board the importance of us having someone in the
office that can help us with our financial situation. Whether that will be
an Executive Director, a Resource Developer or both incorporated into one
has not yet been determined. It is imperative that we find that person soon
and I am asking the search committee once again to begin the process of that
task.

James Hollins gave us a report on the Youth Conference cancellation. The
hotel that we had chosen for that event has assessed a cancellation penalty
in which we believe is not justified. A letter has been sent to the hotel
from our attorney and we are waiting for a response.

James did mention that next year we are hoping to incorporate some type of
youth conference along with our June summer camp. This will be less costly
and hopefully will attract more youth.

That pretty well sums up our board meeting last night. We are planning on
another conference call in late August and as always, you will be able to
listen to the proceedings via the Internet thanks to Beau Barnhart of Look
Media.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions..
