Healthcare reform action in U.S. Senate

The Senate passed its version of the healthcare reform bill early this morning by a vote of 60-39.  Informal negotiations between the House and the Senate on the two healthcare bills have begun.  There is not yet a detailed timeline for House/Senate conference committee talks.  Expectations were that the Administration wanted a final bill passed before the State of the Union address (usually in late January), but the House doesn't return from its break until January 12th  and the Senate returns January 19th.  Some suspect that merging the two bills in conference may take until February.

 

 

Missouri Budget/Legislative Hearings

Missouri's 2010 legislative session begins on January 6th.  Senate seminars are scheduled in January on several topics, including one to discuss the healthcare reform bills now being considered in Congress.  This session is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12 at 8:30 am in SCR 2 and 1.  The same day, a session on Tax Policy is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. or upon adjournment in SCR 2 and 1.

 

The House begins its focus on social service budget issues as the Appropriations Committee for Health, Mental Health and Social Services has scheduled several hearings.  Testimony from individuals and providers on the 2010 budget will be heard on:

Monday, January 4 at 9:00 a.m.

Tuesday, January 5 at 9:00 a.m.

Wednesday, January 6 at 1:00 p.m.

and Thursday, January 7 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and then reconvene upon Senate adjournment.

All sessions are in HR 5.  Witnesses interested in testifying must call 573-751-1480 in order to sign up.

 

The Committee will also meet on Monday, January 11 to hear the Department Overview from the Department of Health and Senior Services at 12:00 p.m.  The Departmental overview will continue on:

Tuesday, January 12 at 8:00 a.m.

Wednesday, January 13 at 8:00 a.m.

and Thursday, January 14th at 8:00 a.m.

On Tues, Weds, and Thurs, the committee will reconvene in the afternoon upon House adjournment.
